Ten tonnes of compost was given away in Radlett last week to help celebrate international Compost Awareness Week.

Residents were also able to swap their unwanted seeds and tools and receive advice from Hertsmere Borough Council’s recycling officer at Newberries car park.

Recycling officer Gemma Paris said: "We’ve run the compost giveaway for several years now and this year was the most popular, it was great to see so many residents join in. But apologies to anyone who missed out as the compost was all gone before we expected.

"We’d like to say a big thank you to our contractors John O’Conner who helped dish the dirt, and Agrivert who supplied the compost which was made from what residents put in their green bins."
