Hundreds of runners took part in the annual Wheathampstead 10k this Sunday to raise funds for a local school.

Approximately 800 people braved the hot weather to participate in the run from Sheepcote Lane on Sunday in aid of Beech Hyde School.

Paul Drake, race co-ordinator, said: "It was a massive success.

"It was a great day and there was such a good atmosphere and vibe about it."

The winner, Mark Crabtree from Gade Valley Harriers, crossed the finish line with a time of 36 minutes, 37 seconds.

Five hundred people took part in the 2k race, which is organised for children and families.

The Wheathampstead 10k was set up by Beech Hyde School parents and volunteers 14 years ago. Since then runners have raised thousands of pounds towards funding a new school library and play equipment.

This year, organisers hope to fund outdoor play equipment, a new outdoor learning area and a new outdoor play surface for football and netball.
