Residents living at a retirement home in Park Street have knitted their way to creating clothes and blankets for babies at special care units.
Bonnie Babies is made up of seven people from North Hertfordshire Homes’ Rosewood Court, who have been getting together to have a chat while knitting premature clothes, blankets, hats, coats and burial outfits to UK special baby care units and parents.
Kath Collins, who helped set up the craft club said: "This is our second project. For our first, we delivered 30 baby hats directly to Watford Hospital, but Muriel my neighbour found out about Bonnie Babies so now we are helping more hospitals and families.
"We meet together on Monday afternoons for a couple of hours and have produced ten blankets so far."
Irene Mulvenna said: "Although I’m still active at 92, I didn’t want my daughter to keep travelling to Billericay in Essex to visit me.
"So I moved to St Albans but I didn’t know anyone. Even though I’m not a Rosewood Court resident, I was welcome to join the craft club for company. There’s a good community here and it’s a wonderful scheme."
