St Albans campaigner Siobhan Palmer is set to join 130 young people from around Europe to lobby newly-elected MEPs to commit to fighting extreme poverty in the next EU Parliament.

Siobhan of Avenue Road will travel to Brussels later this month where she will attend the ‘ONE Summit’ on June 24, a day of action to persuade MEPs to sign the ONE Vote 2014 pledge.

The pledge, which promises to help the world’s poorest people,  has been promoted around the UK and Europe by anti-poverty group The ONE Campaign’s Youth Ambassadors.

Due to the work of Youth Ambassadors ahead of EU Elections, 122 MEPs have signed up to the pledge so far.

Siobhan was selected to be a Youth Ambassador from hundreds of applicants across Europe to represent the anti-poverty organisation.

The 21-year-old said she was excited, and added: "It’s a great opportunity to show politicians and the public that young people do care about politics, and that we have the power to change things through campaigns like ONE Vote 2014.

"The ONE Summit is a chance for our MEPs to show us that they can act on the issues we care about. ONE thing St Albans residents can all agree is that no one should have to scrape by on less than £1 a day."
