Staff and customers at a St Albans pub have raised £1,865 for new ponies at a city college.

The White Swan organised a fundraiser for Oaklands College Riding for the Disabled (RDA).

The much-needed cash will go towards some new ponies for the college as the current animals are ready for retirement. Visitors enjoyed a raffle, and bucking bull, sumo wrestling and a music festival.

John McGuinness, owner of the Upper Dagnall Street pub said:"I visited Oaklands College recently and was impressed at the dedication of the staff at the Riding for the Disabled facility. As a result I really wanted to help raise funds in support of this worthy cause."

Special guests at the fundraiser included Steve Collins, former world middleweight boxing champion who kindly donated a pair of signed boxing gloves for auction.

RDA is the national governing body of the sport of equestrian for disabled people in the UK.

A cheque will be presented to Sarah Moreland on Thursday, June 19 at a special event in the pub. Sarah, an Olympic coach who runs the Oaklands College RDA group, is also bringing the UK riding team to the Special Olympics in LA next year.
