Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal crash in St Albans on Monday.
The accident involved a Vauxhall Combi van and a pedestrian, and took place at 9am on Tippendell Lane.
The van was travelling southeast along Tippendell Lane towards the A414 and collided with a man crossing the road.
The 55-year-old pedestrian from St Albans sustained head injuries and was attended to by paramedics but died at the scene.
Investigating officer PC Jackie Lister, from the road crash investigation team, said: "I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the events leading up to this incident or who saw the collision take place, to contact police as soon as possible."
