An award-winning photographer from Harpenden, who worked for the Watford Observer, has received a number of get well messages from sports stars, following an accident in April.

Marc Aspland has received messages from stars including Rafael Nadal, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Alastair Cook, Andy Murray and Boris Becker.

The 50-year-old award-winning sports photographer was found unconscious by the roadside in  Harpenden after a cycling accident on April 10.

Mr Aspland, three times Sports Photographer of the Year and a fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, suffered a brain haemorrhage, nerve damage and two broken collar bones and is recovering at home.

The father of three started his career at the Watford Observer, joining straight from a photo-journalism course. He now works for the Times and has covered five Olympic games, F1, Wimbledon and 6 Nations Rugby.

Fellow sports photographers have collected "get well soon" messages from leading sports stars, who have posed with the message #gwsmarc, or "get well soon, Marc", for photographs posted on Twitter.
