An "inspirational" paralympic footballer was in St Albans last week to talk to pupils about his life and career in football.

David Clarke visited St Albans Girls' School, on Sandridgebury Lane, to talk to pupils in year seven and ten.

David discussed his career journey that lead to him becoming part of the British team that played at the Paralympics during the summer of 2008.

At the 2012 Olympics in London David was selected as the stadium torch bearer.

Year seven pupil Natalia Douglas said: "I thought the footballer was very inspirational, as he was determined to play football even though at the beginning it seemed impossible because of his blindness.

"When the opportunity came his way, he grabbed it. He must have been terrified playing a brand new professional sport in front of such a big crowd! It made me realise that fear should not get in the way of once in a life time opportunities."

David is the longest serving member of the five a side football team for blind football in the UK and also appears in the National Football hall of fame Museum in Manchester.
