Cloudy skies and short bursts of rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of hundreds of people who attended a classic car show in Radlett over the weekend, the mark the 150th anniversary of the parish church.

This year marks the milestone anniversary for Christ Church in Walting Street, and a series of events has been planned in celebration - kicking off with the Radlett Classic Car Show on Saturday.

The event encouraged a spectacular line up of more than 80 pristine iconic cars of all ages.

Brian Davis organised the event on the field behind the church. He said the day went "very well".

The 79-year-old Radlett resident said: "We are very pleased with how it went. The weather could have been better, and at one point it was touch and go with the spit fire but luckily it all worked out.

"We are looking forward continuing the celebrations this week."

Nearly 400 spectators also had the opportunity to enjoy refreshments provided by the Church’s
Hospitality Group throughout the day in addition to the attractions of the 4 String Ukelele Band contributions during the afternoon, finishing off with three "thrilling", low level overhead passes made by the spitfire Mc.19.

Money raised on the day will go to Leukemia Research and the Peace Hospice.

Mr Davis said the anniversary is about celebrating the church serving God and the community.

He added: "This is not just for parishioners but for the whole community. Everyone will need the service of a church at some time or another and we like to think we serve the whole community."

Other celebrations this week include a variety concert on Wednesday, a flower festival on Friday and a celebration dinner from TV Master Chef finalist Amanda Burningham on Saturday.
