St Albans & Harpenden Review: Praise for 'brilliant' Wheathampstead village fair Praise for 'brilliant' Wheathampstead village fair

Flower pot men, sunflowers and fairies paraded through the streets of Wheathampstead as part of the village’s annual fair, which attracted hundreds of visitors this weekend.

The two-day celebration was "very well attended" as old and young alike dressed up in the theme of a ‘English Country Garden', showing a great community effort.

Louise Harrison, deputy clerk of Wheathampstead Parish Council said: "It was brilliant and very well attended.

"The theme went down very well and everyone really made an effort."

The event kicked off on Saturday with the Wheathampstead’s Got Talent in the Memorial Hall, which saw 19 children take part in singing, dancing and entertainment.

Leah Cooke and Abigail Logan were named the best singers of the competition, while Grace Hill and Morgan Whiting were crowned the best dance acts.

Best entertainment award went to Cara Binder and L’estrange Brothers including Toby and Harry L’estrange - who were also named overall winners of the competition.

Following the talent competition, there was an evening of live music on The Meads, in Meads Lane.

At 1pm the next day, a parade made its way through the village, with floats decorated in the theme of English Country Garden lining the streets and led by St Albans Mayor Geoff Harrison.

Floats from local schools, organisations and charities glided through the streets, which were lined with hundreds of visitors.

Following the procession, which went through the High Street to the Marford Playing Fields, of Marford Road, there was an afternoon full of entertainment.
