Children at Mount Pleasant Lane Primary School in Bricket Wood have been busy designing their own art work to commemorate the centenary of World War One.

Children decided to make a poppy field using old bottle caps to add colour to the poppies.

Each of the school's 350 children were involved in the project - designing, painting, sorting and fixing bottle caps. They were helped with this by artist in residence Michelle Dibdin,  Senior Teaching Assistant Ashlee McCarthy and many parents and governors.

Children made a total of 45 poppies - 43 poppies represent the individual service personnel from St Stephens Parish who died during the war, one represents the women who worked at the munitions factory on Greycaine Road, some of whom were injured or killed in accidents, and the final poppy represents the 17 million men, women and children who are estimated to have died in the war.
