Police release image after £3,500 stolen in distraction burglary

Police hunting two men who pretended to be roofers and made off with £3,500 cash during a St Albans distraction burglary have released an evofit.

During the offence, on Wednesday, June 25, between 3.15pm and 5.50pm in Chiswell Green Lane, two men knocked on the victim’s door and offered roofing services.

They inspected the roof and then went into the house with the victim and quoted him £3,500 for the work to be completed.

The victim then drove to the bank, withdrew the cash which the men stole when he returned.

One of the offenders is described as a white man, approximately 6ft 2ins tall with a large build and aged approximately 25 years old.

He was said to be clean shaven, with mousey brown hair in an ordinary cut.

Police Investigator Julie Fewings, from the specialist unit Operation Manhunt, said: "This is an appalling incident where the offenders pressured the victim to get the money they claimed they needed for the roof repairs.

"The victim has assisted police with creating this image of the suspect, which we are releasing to help the investigation. I’d urge anyone who may recognise this face or the description of the man given, to contact police immediately.

"Also, I’d urge people never to accept offers of work at their door. Always check with a legitimate trader to see if the work is necessary and obtain at least two quotes for the work before proceeding."

If you can identify this man or have information about the incident, please contact Operation Manhunt via the Herts Police non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number F3/14/869.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
