A £150,000 road improvement scheme will begin in Harpenden next week.
Piggottshill Lane will be closed for four weeks from August 4 between 7.30am and 6.30pm, with access maintained for residents and customers.
The scheme includes installing a zebra crossing at the junction of Piggottshill Lane with Grove Road and Southdown Road, and carriageway resurfacing.
Terry Douris, cabinet member for highways at Hertfordshire County Council, said: "We understand that these works are likely to cause a degree of inconvenience to road users. We apologise for this and would ask everyone for their co-operation while the work is in progress."
The council said work is weather dependent and from time to time unforeseen circumstances may arise meaning work may continue outside the advertised hours.
Ringway is carrying out the work on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council.
