Ferrers Lane in Wheathampstead is now open after an earlier accident.
The road was closed after police were called at 8am to the car accident on the B651 between Ferrers Lane and Dyke Lane.
A male driver in his 40s was freed from his Smart Roadster and taken to the Royal London Hospital.
The other car involved was a silver E-Class Mercedes.
