A charity triathlon and duathlon will return to St Albans later this year, to raise money for orphaned and abandoned children.

More than 350 places are up for grabs at this year St James’s Place Foundation Triathlon which will take place on Sunday, October 5.

Since 2002 the event has raised more than one million pounds for the international charity Hope and Homes for children.

Competitors for the triathlon will set off for a 400 metre swim, before tackling a 21 kilometre cycle ride, followed by a five kilometre road run. Duathlon entrants will start with a five kilometre run, followed by a five kilometre bike ride and then another five kilometre run.

Hope and Homes for Children’s Joe Sutton said: "Whether you are a seasoned triathlete or looking to dip your toe in the water with a duathlon we have places for you.

"Entry is open to anyone over the age of 15 and competitors can take part as individuals or in teams of three or four.

"Trophies will be awarded for the triathlon and duathlon’s fastest teams, individuals and top fundraisers.

"If speed isn’t your forte fear not: there is also a trophy for the top fundraiser.

"People get an enormous sense of achievement from not only taking part, but also knowing they are helping some of the most vulnerable children in the world escape harmful institutions for loving families."

Competitors are asked to raise a minimum of £485 for Hope and Homes for Children and race organisers are hoping to raise a record £200,000 this year. For more information visit: www.sprinttriathlon.org.
