The theft of a metal cable in Wheathampstead is being investigated by police, who have released an image of a man they wish to speak with as part of their investigation.

The incident occurred between 1.30pm and 1.50pm on Thursday, August 7, at a radio mast site in the town.

A man approached the fence surrounding the site and cut a hole. Once inside the site he dug up a number of the lightning protection cables. He severed several of these before being disturbed. He left the cables behind and ran away from the site.

Safer Neighbourhood Team Sergeant Tom Fisher said: "This theft, and the damage it caused, was extremely reckless and dangerous to the person responsible and others.

"I would like to identify the man pictured as quickly as possible because he may be able to assist us with our investigation. If anyone believes they know his identity, please contact me straight away."

Anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Sergeant Fisher via Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference number F2/14/1141.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
