A former St Albans City and District Council-owned sheltered housing scheme has been transformed into sixteen affordable homes.

The redevelopment of The Grange in Colney Heath to create eight one-bedroom, seven two-bedroom and one three-bedroom flats took a year.

The building has been renamed Jasmine Court, and the flats are being let to people through the Council’s Choice Based Lettings Scheme.

Councillor Brian Ellis, portfolio holder for housing at the council, said: "Jasmine Court is the latest project to be completed as part of the council’s strategy to redevelop outdated sheltered accommodation into new modern homes for social rent.

"We recently redeveloped Fielding Place, in St Albans into 18 affordable flats and Rosewood Court, in Bricket Wood into 34 sheltered flats for older people."

Projects are also underway to redevelop Caroline Sharpe House, St Albans and Leacroft, Harpenden into new flexicare schemes for older people.

Work is due to start shortly to develop the site at Victor Smith Court, Bricket Wood into 18 flats for rent.
