Luis Suárez made a guest appearance in Flamstead this weekend, at the annual Scarecrow Festival.
Hundreds of visitors flocked to village as residents had made a selection of around 100 weird and wonderful scarecrows based on fantasy, popular culture and politics.
The three-day festival, now in its 13th year, is held to raise money for village church St Leonard’s, as well as Hertfordshire’s Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre.
Aside from Suárez there were straw interpretations of Harry Potter, Marilyn Monroe, The Wombles and a timely WWI tribute.
Paul McMahon, the event's organiser, said: "Apart from some showers on Sunday morning and a few spots of rain on the Saturday afternoon the festival struck lucky with the weather and this resulted in a good attendance on all three days of the festival.
"The sun shone brightly on the scarecrows on display and this brought out a large number of visitors, many of whom have been coming to the festival for several years and look forward to it every year."
St Leonard’s Church played host to a number of stalls selling a variety of trinkets including jewellery, as well as several watercolour painting demonstrations.
First place went to Andrew Lambourne for his interpretation of Darth Vader.
Despite the villages' enthusiasm for scarecrows, very few of the entries will actually be used to deter birds from eating crops.
Second place went to Brenda Tibbs for her WWI tribute.
