A planning application for a new housing scheme has been refused.

Congar Lane submitted an outline planning application to demolish existing buildings and build up to 175 houses on the former HSBC management training college in Oak Lane, Bricket Wood.

But St Albans District Council turned down the application at a meeting on Monday, August 11 because of the potential impact on the Green Belt.

The application was deemed to be "detrimental" to the openness, character and visual amenity of the area.

In addition, the council suggested the development would be an overdevelopment of the site.
