Community projects in St Albans can apply for a grant of up to £5,000 to fund projects.

St Albans District Council is awarding £71,000 to fund projects, ranging from football sessions for the disabled to wildlife awareness activities.

This year the council is looking for projects that promote positive activities for young people and those which increase people’s engagement in local democracy.

A grant for £4,700 has already been awarded to The Living Room to pilot psychodrama group counselling for those with addictions and their families.

Councillor Beric Read, portfolio holder for community engagement and localism at St Albans District Council, said: "Successful applicants have to demonstrate that their projects are needed by the community and that they will make a real difference. The grants from the 2014/15 Fund will enable much-needed support and activities to be provided across the local community."
