A St Albans office worker swapped his shirt and tie for a "mankini" and raised more than £2,000 by cycling 100 miles for charity.

Richard Chambers, who works at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Bricket Road, undertook the challenge from Hatfield with friend Tom Dunning on Sunday, August 24.

They agreed to do the cycle in the Borat-themed costume after a colleague asked how much they would have to pay for him to do it in a mankini and the pair agreed £2,000.

The money is being donated to Diabetes UK, as Richard himself has type one diabetes.

He said: "The event is quite a serious, so when we turned up on the day, Tom and I got slightly worried with the semi-pro looking riders, who were fully kitted out.

"The most daunting part was walking to the queue at the start line which had a few hundred riders in. As they noticed us you could see them all suddenly start to turn and look and the laughter started.

"Most people started taking pictures, a lot were in shock we were doing the 100 mile routes, as opposed to the 40 or 60 miles routes. We got a lot of respect from everyone there because we were doing the ride for charity."
