The de Havilland Aircraft Museum has opened a Great War commemorative exhibition, with a special mural depicting a typical de Havilland fighter aircraft in action.
The exhibition at Salisbury Hall depicts the aircraft company’s contribution to aviation during the Great War, and features profiles of Geoffrey de Havilland, the aircraft he designed and the pilots who flew them.
There are also tributes to fallen soldiers who flew at London Colney aerodrome - including Albert Ball who was killed on May 7, 1917, aged just 20.
He was credited with shooting down 44 enemy aircraft as well as being awarded the Military Cross, Distinguished Service Order and two bars, and became one of 19 First World War fighter pilots to be awarded the Victoria Cross.
The exhibition is open now.
