Faded yellow lines on a street in St Albans are resulting in traffic gridlock - and people are taking to social media to vent their frustration.

St Albans District Council said it is investigating the faded lines on Victoria Street and will restore them "as soon as possible".

Motorist Martin Stewart tweeted on Tuesday: "St Albans appears to be completely clogged with traffic because of illegally parked cars preventing traffic flow and unenforced restrictions."

Another user said it took half an hour to turn right on Victoria Street due to the gridlock.

Mike Lovelady, head of legal democratic services at St Albans District Council, said: "It has been brought to our attention that some yellow lines on a section of Victoria Street have faded and that vehicles have been parked on this section.

"We are investigating this and will arrange for any necessary action to be taken as soon as possible to restore the yellow lines."
