The public can give have their say about planning procedures in the district when a consultation launches next month.

St Albans District Council will hold a six week Strategic Local Plan consultation starting on October 10.

The plan, when eventually agreed, will set out the long-term planning strategy for the district over the next two decades.

Each locality is required to have such a blue-print for future long term development. When adopted, the plan will cover policies and principles of what can be built and where over the next two decades.

Councillor Julian Daly, chair of the planning policy committee and portfolio holder for planning and conservation said: "The development of the Strategic Local Plan is a top priority for the council over the coming months.

"Without it we risk having little control of what developers do in our District. We are approaching an important stage in what is a long process of planning policy development. We want to ensure that everyone interested in the long term future of the district has an opportunity to help shape the plan."
