A man who used his car "as a weapon" to deliberately drive into another man during a row outside a St Albans club was jailed for six years today.

Curtis Jones smashed into the other man's leg, causing appalling injuries.

Today 30-year-old Jones, of Nuns Lane in St Albans, appeared for sentence at St Albans crown court having been convicted by a jury earlier this summer of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

It had been on January 13 last year that Jones drove to The London Road Club in Hill End to meet a man with a view to supplying him with drugs.

At the time, the two were in dispute over money Jones thought he was owed by the man over previous drug deals.

Outside the club the pair got into a heated argument and it was when Jones went to drive away but drove into the man, who was standing in front of the vehicle.

His leg was broken and, in the weeks and months that followed, he underwent a number of operations.

Bones had to be reset and metal strips were put into his leg.

Judge Stephen Gullick hearing the case was told the victim is still waiting to have a further operation and will be on crutches for between six to eight weeks.

Passing sentence, the judge told him: "You must understand if you use a vehicle as a weapon to drive over someone's leg, a prison sentence inevitably follows."

He jailed him for six years and disqualified him from driving for four years.
