A school in St Albans has been recognised for its work to bring the world into the classroom.

Sandringham School was awarded the British Council’s International School Award for a long-term project working with Farafenni Senior Secondary High School in the Gambia.

This link has been developed over the past six years and has included numerous exchange visits for both staff and students from both schools.

The specific work has included joint curriculum development in key areas such as mathematics, English and science, together with sharing leadership and management ideas.

The school in The Ridgeway also has ongoing exchange visits with schools in France, Germany and Spain and is currently developing an international portfolio to support the development of education in other countries around the World.

John Rolfe, from the British Council, said: "The school’s fantastic international work has rightfully earned it this prestigious award.

"The International School Award is a great chance for schools to demonstrate the important work they’re doing to bring the world into their classrooms.

"Adding an international dimension to children’s education ensures that they are truly global citizens and helps prepare them for successful future careers in an increasingly global economy."
