He may look like an adorable puppy but this nine-week-old dog is Hertfordshire police's newest weapon in the fight against illegal drugs.
Currently living with a foster PC, Brodie the golden Labrador will begin his intensive search and recovery training at the age of one-year-old, until then he will be encouraged to socialise.
All police dogs undergo a carefully assessment and medical examination, including a series of tests, specially designed to identify whether he had the necessary instincts and temperament required.
His training will enable him to search for and locate drugs in open areas, buildings and vehicles, and is based upon positive reinforcement and harnessing instinctive behaviour patterns.
On completion Brodie and his handler will be assessed to see if they have achieved the required standards. He will have developed an extremely strong bond with his handler. Training will continue throughout Brodie's operational life.
