A free school in Redbourn is taking "effective action" to tackle the areas requiring improvement, according to a monitoring inspection from Ofsted.

Harpenden Free School is being monitored after the education watchdog told said it "required improvement" in March.

The school, which teaches 105 pupils aged between four and eight, received the rating because of high levels of "instability of staffing" and a lack of planned and targeted work for pupils.

When the school was visited earlier last month, it was told it still needed to monitor pupils’ attendance and improve teaching.

Since the previous inspection, the school has appointed a new headteacher and changes have been made to leaders’ roles and responsibilities.

The inspection report said the school has secured improved premises so pupils are taught in sepetare classrooms.

It also said the special educational needs co-ordinator is ensuring teachers work effectively with teaching assistants so that pupils with special educational needs can make better progress.

Harpenden Free School opened in September 2012. Ofsted may carry out further visits until the next full inspection.
