Opening a new leisure centre in London Colney is one of 22 priority projects identified for delivery next year.

St Albans District Council reviewed council projects delivered in the last year at a recent meeting, including the opening of the Batchwood Sports Centre.

Cabinet also recommended a revised corporate plan and budget to be approved by council when it meets on December 3.

The projects include developing three under-utilised garage sites in Batchwood provide affordable housing, a First World War commemoration programme that involves young people in the community, progressing the transformation of the grade II* listed Town Hall in St Peter’s Street into a new City museum and art gallery, developing the Council’s sheltered housing to provide modern affordable homes and opening a new leisure facility at Cotlandswick in London Colney.

Councillor Alec Campbell, portfolio holder for resources said: "Each year the council agrees a Corporate Plan identifying key projects. We have delivered many of the projects promised in last year’s plan, for example the Batchwood Sports Centre. We are also taking what were new initiatives this year into the ongoing general work programme. The Council will focus on a number of key projects, some like the leisure centre in London Colney, will come to fruition next year.

"We are adding two new projects that involve investment in staff to help improve our planning and parking services. The aim is to progress 22 projects and to continue to deliver frontline services with no increase in the council’s element of council tax."
