A TV presenter was the special guest at a St Albans school careers event.

Kate Bellingham from Tomorrow’s World, a series on new developments in science and technology, visited St Albans Girls’ School last week for their STEM careers event for parents and students.

The evening was held in conjunction with Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce to raise the profile of careers in the industries related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Kate Bellingham herself an engineer, encouraged the young women to consider entering into sectors that are still largely dominated by men.

Year 10 student Dara Jekells said: "It was really inspiring to find out the jobs available in these subject areas and the surprising high level of salaries too."

Many enthusiastic representatives from local international companies such as Glaxo-Smith Kline, IBM, Selex, Imagination and MBDA were on hand to offer valuable careers advice and interact with the receptive audience.
