The incident occurred in Harris Lane, Shenley between midday on Sunday, November 30 and 6.30am on Monday, December 1.

The offender, or offenders, stole seven power tools, including a Makita 110 drill, a Bosch nine inch hand grinder, a Makits impact drill, a Makita jig saw, a Makita hand drill and two Walkers' drills. All the items were marked with "Arnold" in black permanent pen.

PC Ross Paybody, investigating the thefts, said: "We are conducting enquiries into this crime but would ask the public to contact us if they have come across them since they were stolen. They are identifiable because of the word Arnold written on them in black marker pen.

"I'd also like to hear from anyone who believes they may have witnessed this crime or saw anyone suspiciously in the area when it took place.

"If you have any information which could assist the investigation, please call me via 101 quoting crime number J1/14/3825."
