A new play area, landscaped garden and community orchard are going to be built in Harpenden.

The plans for Rothamsted Park include provision for a new landscaped garden to be developed in place of the rose garden and former putting green.

Design features include a picnic area, a pergola-covered path through a lawned area and a wildflower garden.

There are also proposals to relocate the children’s play area to a more visible location and to install new play equipment. The land currently used for the play area will then be converted into a community orchard where local varieties of fruit trees will be planted.

St Albans District Council are currently consulting on the plans. Any comments need to be sent to Phil Bruce-Green either by email at greenspaces@stalbans.gov.uk or by post to the Civic Centre, St Peter’s Street St Albans, AL3JE. The deadline for feedback is Friday, December, 19.

There will also be a public meeting to discuss the plans and the development of the James Marshall site with 28 apartments and public cafe. It will take place at Park Hall in Leyton Road at 8pm on Thursday, December 11.

The plans are subject to funds being found for the project and can be seen at: www.stalbans.gov.uk/consultations.
