Streetlights on A-roads in St Albans will be converted in to LEDs in the New Year as part of a £6.5m highways improvement project.
Hertfordshire County Council said that by changing A-road streetlights to LEDs it will save money in the long term as the new lights use less energy and can be controlled centrally.
The scheme will cost £6.5m upfront but the authority claims it will save £660,000 every year from the end of 2015.
Work began in east Watford this week with the roll-out to begin in St Albans in February. Visit www.ringway.co.uk for more information.
