UKIP’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Hitchin and Harpenden said the party’s "common sense policies" should make any current MP nervous.

Following a hustings meeting last month, John Stocker MBE was selected by the UK Independence Party (UKIP) to stand as their prospective parliamentary candidate for Hitchin and Harpenden in the General Election to be held on May 7 2015.

John is married with two children and four grandchildren, and had his philanthropic work rewarded with an MBE in 2008.

After graduating from City of London University with an engineering degree, John spent six years as an Engineering Officer in the Royal Navy before embarking on a Senior Management career in the offshore and telecommunication industries with BP.

He then formed a construction company, expanding the business to a very successful group which he sold several years ago.

In accepting the nomination John made it clear that he is undaunted by taking on Peter Lilley a former Tory government minister, stating: "UKIP has emerged in the last two by-elections and the previous European Elections as the major force in UK politics. Our common sense policies, which are addressing the wishes and sentiments of the nation, should make any incumbent MP nervous regardless of their majority."
