An appeal has been allowed and planning permission granted for a single storey rear extension in Beconsfield Road.
Planning permission had previously been refused by St Albans City and District Council due to concerns that work would endanger a nearby large lime tree.
The decision for the flat in Alpha House is subject to five conditions.
These include the development beginning no later than three years from the date of the decision, no development taking place until samples of the materials to be used have been submitted, and no use of the roof area as a balcony or roof garden.
The development must also be carried out in accordance to approved plans the council have set out, and the external windows and doors to be used should be white painted timber.
