A St Albans councillor said "justice has been served" after a common assault charge against him was thrown out of court tonight.
Conservative Councillor Salih Gaygusuz had been charged after an alleged altercation with an employee at St Albans Household Waste Recycling Centre in Ronsons Way on September 16.
But Magistrate Leigh Smith dismissed the charge against St Albans City and District Council’s ward member for Marshalswick South at St Albans Magistrates Court today.
Councillor Gaygusuz said: "I am annoyed and upset that I have spent four hours in police custody and have been going through hell for the last three or four months facing court charges.
"If I was to be found guilty that would have been the end of my political career for the city that I'm willing to give so much back to. I'm pleased that justice has been served."
