An appeal made against a refusal to grant planning permission for two houses in Harpenden has been allowed.

The appeal was made by Peter Rudge against St Albans District Council’s decision to refuse permission to build on the land at the rear of 21 Wood End Road and 10 and 12 Wood End Hill.

The application was originally refused because of concerns about the effect of the development n the character and appearance of the area.

Nearby residents also raised issues including highway safety, impact on local wildlife, flooding, noise and lack of school places.

The planning application was granted by an inspector appointed by Diane Fleming, an inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
