Following major disruptions to passenger services, a rail operator has agreed a new compensation scheme for those who have experienced severe delays.

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) made the announcement following a meeting with St Albans MP Anne Main, the Chief Executive of Govia Charles Horton and the Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin last week.

The Conservative MP said: “Local residents have experienced major disruptions to their daily commute which wasn’t suitably recognised in the existing scheme.

“At the meeting with the Transport Secretary, I made it very clear that passengers were suffering.”

Govia will reinstate the old compensation scheme from Sunday, February 1.

Ms Main added: “This is a small step towards rectifying some of the many concerns that were brought to my attention from constituents.

“Passengers who commute on a regular basis have been hit hard because of the major disruptions to the service and difficulties with communications.

“I look forward to a further meeting next week with the minister and Govia officials where I will continue to push for improvements.”

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) launched a 12 week consultation with passengers and stakeholders on the proposed off peak timetable, which will be introduced in December 2015 to pave the way for the new expanded Thameslink network of 2018.

The consultation will end on January 30.
