Four pupils from a school in Harpenden are celebrating their sporting successes after taking part in an annual cross country championships competition.

The pupils from Crabtree Junior School were entered into the junior races of the Hertfordshire Schools Athletics Association's annual Cross Country Championships, held at Westminster Lodge in St Albans.

In the event, which took place on Saturday, January 31, all three girls were placed in the top 20 in the girls' race out of nearly 180 runners.

Pupil Lucy Evans bagged the top spot and Georgia Threlfall and Emma Wilson both ran personal bests.

In the boys' race, Year 5 pupil Adam Grimes, who was competing with runners a year older than him, was placed 21st, and is already looking forward to next year's race.

Emma Thomas, the school's PE coordinator, said: "Our pupils were outstanding in their discipline, focus, desire and overall fitness. I am looking forward to following the journey of these promising young athletes in the future."
