Proposals to introduce a recycling service for businesses and a weekly food waste collection have received backing from St Albans City and District Council's Scrutiny committees.
The proposals were among a batch of initiatives aimed at increasing recycling in the district.
Members heard that the council is looking to make possible changes to its waste collection service when it re-tenders its contract in April, with particular emphasis on increasing the amount of household waste recycled from 51 per cent to more than 60 per cent.
One of the recommendations made by the committees, was that a business case for providing a recycling service to small-to-medium businesses should be developed.
All recommendations will now be considered at the next meeting on Tuesday, February 24. For more information visit www.stalbans.gov.uk.
