The Police and Crime Commissioner’s office is looking to hire a part time Chief Executive – who will earn up to £60,000 a year.

The successful candidate would receive between £40,000 and £60,000 for the equivalent of 0.4 of a full-time post, which would be based in Harpenden.

David Lloyd, who earns £75,000 as Hertfordshire’s elected PCC, said: “Our trial has shown that it makes good business sense to have a part-time Chief Executive which can fulfil the statutory and management requirements of the post at a much reduced cost.

“The Chief Executive will focus on strategic partnerships which provide an efficient solution to facilitate improved and co-ordinated service delivery in policing, crime and the community safety environment across Hertfordshire.”

It follows the end of a ‘successful pilot scheme’ which saw Roy Wilsher work as both the County Council’s Director for Community Protection and the PCC's Chief Executive.

Mr Lloyd reimbursed the council for Mr Wilsher's employment costs. He worked on a secondment, the equivalent of two days per week, and received a £145,000 combined salary.

The role is said to help the commissioner build on his achievements to date, including reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in Herts.

The PCC’s office said the future includes recruiting more police offices, commissioning new and improved services for victims of crime and the continued scrutiny of Hertfordshire Constabulary.
