St Albans Mayor gave his stamp of approval to the new-look Fleetville children’s play area when he officially opened the facility.

Children enjoyed using the new equipment, playing ball games with Councillor Geoff Harrison and having fun with a giant parachute at the opening on Friday, February 20.

The new equipment includes an activity boat, a climbing unit with slide, a fitness trail and springers in the characters of a boat, donkey and camel. There are also swings and a shelter for children to enjoy.

St Albans District Council worked with a steering group of local residents and councillors on the design development for the revamped play area.

Park-users were surveyed to find out their views on the types of play equipment needed for the play park. The steering group then vetted several design tenders and voted for the one that best met the survey results.

Most of the funding for the equipment came from Section 106 money secured from developers when planning permission was granted for local housing schemes.
