A school in St Albans kicked off World Book Day celebrations with a visit from author Alex Woolf.

Year 7 and 8 students from Townsend C of E school were treated to the visit as part of the celebration of authors, illustrators and books.

Alex spoke about the process of writing and becoming a published author, as well as the importance of reading.

World Book Day is the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

This year it falls on Thursday, March 5.

All of next week the school are celebrating with various activities, including an interactive game of guess the teacher behind the book, podcasts from celebrities about reading, making bookmarks at lunchtime, quizzes in form time, teachers reading their to students as well as receiving their £1 book tokens to buy their WBD book.
