A TV talent show winner has shared his experience of the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme with St Albans school pupils yesterday.

Jermain Jackman, who won The Voice last year, is an ambassador for NCS and visited Roundwood Ppark School to speak about the “life-changing” opportunities the scheme opened up for him.

The 20-year-old singer also gave a preview performance of his new single release, How Will I Know, to a crowd of 300 students and staff.

St Albans & Harpenden Review:

NCS gives 15 to 17-year-olds a chance to run a community project to address a local issue, helping them to develop work and life skills.

More than 126,000 teenagers have taken part in NCS since it launched in 2011.

Robert Mercel, head of sixth form, said: “Today’s visit from Jermain was a great opportunity for our students to see that the key to success is working hard both inside and outside of school.

“Jermain’s journey saw him achieve great academic results whilst also building interests outside of education, which has enabled him to become the well-rounded individual he is today and perfectly illustrates why we place an emphasis on extra-curricular learning at Roundwood Park School.”
