A home care provider in St Albans is welcoming the introduction of the National Care Certificate as a significant step towards increasing standards.
Nick Harrall, the joint owner of the local Home Instead Senior Care, employs a team of CAREGivers providing companionship-based care in the town, and Harpenden, London Colney, Park Street, Radlett and the surrounding villages.
Mr Harrall said: "We are very keen to implement the Care Certificate.
"Home Instead as a company already implements the most rigorous standards in recruitment and training but it important that standards are raised across the industry.
"Care is often seen as a job that people fall into, as a stop-gap and not as a career. We see caring as a career choice, with personal development and training as a key issue."
The Care Certificate is being introduced in April 2015, in the wake of the The Cavendish Review into healthcare assistants and support workers in the NHS and social care settings.
It found that preparation of healthcare assistants and social care support workers for their roles within care settings was inconsistent.
Home Instead St Albans is always looking to recruit caring, compassionate people and train them as CAREGivers. They offer qualifications for those who wish to develop their knowledge and skills.
