New facilities at Harpenden Swimming Pool Health Suite, including a refurbished sauna, steam room and solarium, are due to open at the end of the week.

A £25,000 investment for the refurbishment, which also includes new changing area, was made jointly by St Albans City and District Council and 1Life, which runs the swimming pool on the council's behalf.

Councillor Annie Brewster, portfolio holder for sports, leisure and heritage, at St Albans City and District Council, said: "Once completed, the refurbished health suite will provide users with a great place to relax and wind down.

"The work will provide updated facilities alongside the existing spa pool and is part of the council's ongoing strategy to improve our sports and leisure facilities around the district."

The work began on Monday, March 2, and commenting on the changes, Mark Braithwaite, regional director for 1Life, said: "We have been listening to what our members have been telling us and this work is in response to their suggestions.

"The redevelopment of these facilities at the pool will provide our members with a fantastic new health suite and will also attract new customers who want to use the centre as a place for relaxation and gentle exercise."
