A school in Harpenden is opening it's doors to past pupils, staff and governors to celebrate it's 50th anniversary.

Wood End School in Yeomans Avenue opened in 1965 with 48 pupils and four members of staff. Over the 50 years the school has been transformed both in infrastructure and educational reforms, and now houses 500 pupils and 73 staff.

To celebrate 50 years, the school will be hosting a number of events, including a 1960s school day and picnic on June 26, a Parent Teacher Association Summer Fair on June 27 and an open evening displaying photos over the years on July 8.

Headteacher Richard Boulton said: "It is a fantastic milestone and we aim to recognise our anniversary in a special way. Combining past and present memories through 50 years of Wood End School is a wonderful way to celebrate and one that the school community will hopefully remember for years to come".
