A police officer has been taken to hospital after a crash involving ta police patrol car in Wheathampstead this morning.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has confirmed a police car was in collision with a red Vauxhall Meriva in Marford Road, at the junction with Dyke Lane at 8.50am.

The police vehicle has now been recovered and Giles Cooper, spokesman for Hertfordshire Constabulary has confirmed the car was not responding to a 999 call and was on routine patrol at the time of the collision.

Hollie Cowan, spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service: said: "An ambulance and a rapid response vehicle attended and treated the two officers – one with a suspected arm injury and one with a suspected hip injury.

"One of the police officers was taken to Lister Hospital for further care. The other was discharged at the scene."The occupants of the Vauxhall Meriva are not believed to have been injured."

Hertfordshire Constabulary had previously indicated that both officers had been taken to hospital, but one was discharged at the scene 

Police are appealing for information about the collision, or the events up to the incident.
