Neighbours trying to fight plans to turn a bungalow into a two-storey house say it will “ruin" the street.

Plans to convert the cottage in Williams Way, Radlett, were approved by Hertsmere Borough Council’s planning committee in March.

But people living nearby were left angry about the proposals, saying that not only would it be the loss of another bungalow – but it would be “overbearing”.

Councillor John Graham was one of three who rejected the proposals.

He said: “The Radlett bungalow is a dying species - I am very conscious about this.

"I am concerned that this proposal is so out of character with the surrounding cul-de-sac and do not think this is within keeping of the street scene."

After the meeting, Murrey Divine, who spoke on behalf of the protestors against the application, said: "We are extremely disappointed and do not think this was in the best interest of the residents.

"Some of people here tonight are the original owners of the bungalows on the street, which were built in the 1960s, and it's a shame as allowing it be converted into a two-storey house will certainly ruin the street."
