Student Charlotte Knight from St Albans has set herself the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Meningitis Research Foundation.

The 20-year-old will be undergoing the climb in September and is hoping to raise £2,990 for the charity by completing the six day trek.

The trek is run by Choose a Challenge who create tailor made adventures for students.

Miss Knight, who is currently studying International Business at Loughborough University said: "Since being at university I have learnt how dangerous meningitis is and how many people it effect all around the world.

"Therefore, now that I have been given the chance to do this challenge, I am very much looking forward to supporting the work Meningitis Research Foundation do to try and stop this horrific disease."

"Meningitis and septicaemia are diseases that can leave a baby, child or adult fighting for their life within hours of the first symptoms.

"As well as having the adventure of a lifetime they will be raising much-needed funds and awareness of this devastating disease."
